Gwinnett County was the scene of a police chase and multiple accidents on Thursday, August 3, 2017. It was a dramatic event that ended in property damage and injury.
According to reports, police received a call of a hit-and-run at Brit Road and Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Norcross. The original accident occurred just after 1:00 p.m. The suspect vehicle fled the scene in a box truck. Police received a call after the accident that a box truck was in Tucker and striking cars. Witnesses were able to apprehend the man and held him on the ground until police arrived.
After police put the man in a patrol car, he was able to move his arms forward and squeeze through the dividing window. The man made his way into the driver seat and stole the cruiser. The man drove onto a golf course, crashed the patrol car and subsequently stole two more vehicles. The man hit vehicles in a Walmart parking lot, causing even more damage.
The man then led police on a chase before crashing at Campus Drive and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. He now faces a variety of charges.
