It has been a dangerous few weeks for people on the roads across parts of the country. Snow and ice have taken their toll, being blamed for hundreds of accidents on our roadways. One such accident occurred in Atlanta and left a police officer injured.

According to reports, a female police officer was investigating an accident on Lenox Road shortly before 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17. The officer was standing in the median while she worked the scene of the wreck. A driver attempting to exit the Ga. 400 ramp lost control of their vehicle due to the icy conditions and struck the officer’s SUV. The SUV then pushed into the officer, causing her to fall to the ground.

Although she was reported to be in significant pain, the officer was able to radio for help before a witness offered assistance. The officer was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where she was ultimately listed in stable condition.

Police said that they had responded to 93 crashes since midnight of that same day. Seven injuries were reported, including injuries to two officers. Police officials urged anyone who did not need to be on the road to stay home and stay safe.
