Melody Cobun was already down on her luck in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day. Her car broke down near the Fulton Industrial Boulevard exit of Interstate 20 before 5 a.m. and was waiting for a tow truck to pick her and her car up. As the tow truck loaded her vehicle on the shoulder, another car struck Cobun, causing fatal injuries.

The driver who hit Cobun remained on the scene and was said to have suffered minor injuries. A passenger in the car that hit Cobun is also dealing with minor injuries. They are expected to make a full recovery.

“We just want to urge all of the drivers to be vigilant. Just be cognizant,” said Lieutenant Jubal Rogers of the South Fulton Police Department. “…I just have to stress the importance of making sure motorists move over for emergency vehicles and tow trucks.” Via Fox5Atlanta.com.

It remains to be seen whether police will charge the driver who struck Cobun.
