There was a lot of commotion at a Shell gas station located on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard at Jimmy Carter Boulevard during the morning of April 23.

“I heard what sounded like fireworks but I realized it wasn’t fireworks because it’s not a holiday,” said business owner Crystal Reyes. Via 11Alive.com

What Reyes and many others in the area heard were gunshots that rang out. A man was killed in the incident, and the shooter is still being tracked down by Gwinnett County Police.

The shooting began near the pumps, and there are reportedly a lot of shell casings and ballistics evidence with which to work. Shattered glass and bullet holes were found in the windows of nearby cars and businesses.

The Shell gas station does have a camera, and authorities are working with the station to retrieve footage that may shed some light on the series of events that took place. That video may help answer some questions.

“Very little is known about the victim and or what happened,” said Officer Hideshi Valle. “Detectives are exploring all motives and hoping to gather as much information as possible from local businesses and citizens around the area.” Via 11Alive.com

Businesses in the area decided to close down in the aftermath of the incident. Fortunately, it does not seem as if other gas station customers present at the time, or customers of other stores in the area were injured.

Even though the gunfire started by the pumps, the deceased’s body was found towards the back of the gas station.

The community is encouraged to contact police with any leads they might have that can help catch the shooter. It’s also not clear how this individual fled the scene during the fracas.
