A jackknifed tractor-trailer blocked two westbound lanes of I-285 in DeKalb County in the early morning hours of November 8.

The crash occurred at 4 am and caused a seven-hour backup.

A semi-truck “jackknife” occurs when the truck starts to skid, and then the trailer swings out to form a 90-degree angle with the cab of the truck.

It’s unclear what caused the tractor-trailer to jackknife and eventually crash. We do know that the scene was surprisingly difficult to process and clean up for authorities. It was initially estimated that this would take an hour and a half to complete, but the job ended up taking around three hours.

It doesn’t appear as if any other vehicles were involved in the crash, which took place around 4 a.m. Details involving who was in the tractor-trailer at the time of the incident have not yet been released.
