Deaths on mass transit across the country have been on the rise since the pandemic started in 2020. In 2021, these figures reached a new high this century, and the perception here in 2022 remains that riding a bus or train isn’t as safe as it used to be only a few short years ago.

The events of the November 19-20 weekend will do nothing to dispel that notion, as there were two separate incidents at the Five Points MARTA station.

Around 7 p.m. on November 19, a man was shot and killed down the block from the station at 29 Peachtree Street. This is pretty notable considering that the area has substantial foot traffic and is located across the street from Peachtree Fountains Plaza. The man was transported to a local hospital but sadly he didn’t survive his injuries.

On the evening of November 20, another man was shot at 25 Peachtree Street at almost the exact same time as the incident the day before. This man was struck with a bullet in the thigh but was awake and alert when police arrived at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Details about where the man was during or before the incident are sparse, but the investigation will possibly include the cooperation of the Walgreens at the address where the man was said to be shot. The identities of the men who were shot have not been released to the public.

We’re hopeful that the areas inside and in the vicinity of our mass transit stations return to safer states in the coming days and weeks. Rafi Law Firm can be reached at (404) 800-9933 if you or someone you love is injured in a violent incident.
