An early-morning power outage on September 25 is being blamed on a drunk driver. According to DeKalb County Police, that driver is a student at Clarkston High School. He was arrested following the crash and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Reports indicate that a driver crashed into a utility pole on Indian Creek Drive. The pole was located in front of Georgia State University Perimeter College’s Clarkston Campus. The accident occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. After the vehicle struck the utility pole, it flipped, causing power lines to crash to the ground.

Rescue workers reported that it took some time to extricate the driver from the vehicle because of the downed power lines. The road was closed for much of the day as crews worked to clear the scene of debris. Georgia Power sent workers to the scene to restring the wires.

The driver had only minor injuries and was able to walk away from the scene of the accident. Perimeter College delayed its classes until noon as a result of the accident.
