If you’re being signaled by a police officer to pull over, it’s best to listen and cooperate with their questions. On October 20, Bernard Yardbrough didn’t heed that advice, and as a result of his actions, two lives were lost and others were injured.

Instead of yielding and safely coming to a stop on the side of the road when being pulled over by the Atlanta Police Department, 22-year-old Yarbrough put the pedal to the metal in his Toyota RAV4 to evade the authorities, running a red light.

As Yarbrough accelerated, his car smashed into a Mitsubishi Outlander that was being operated as an Uber at the time of the crash. The incident took place at Northside Drive and 14th Street.

The collision took the lives of the 39-year-old driver, Guillermo Bracho Barrios, and 27-year-old passenger, Gemini Jerome Jackson, who is pictured in the above image on the right. The three passengers in the backseat were injured and were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.

“From the initiation of the attempted traffic stop to the crash, is approximately 37 seconds,” said the Atlanta Police Department. Via 11alive.com

The investigation remains ongoing, and it is unclear as to what Yarbrough’s motivation might’ve been to try to get away from the police, but he was arrested on two counts of vehicular homicide, fleeing/eluding police, reckless driving, and a headlight violation.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the two men killed in the crash and the three people who are recovering from their injuries.
