Authorities are conducting an inquiry into a tragic accident that resulted in the death of a construction worker on Interstate 75 in Clayton County.

The Georgia Department of Transportation reported the incident near Mount Zion Boulevard on the interstate at approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday night.

The collision involved a black Kia Forte, which, while traveling northbound, entered a construction zone and struck a worker, leading to their immediate death at the site.

Consequently, the interstate was closed for several hours through the night but reopened by Tuesday morning.

Investigators have not yet disclosed the identity of the deceased worker.

At this stage, it is unclear whether the driver of the Kia will be charged.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
