Around 4 a.m. on Labor Day, a deadly crash took place at a Georgia 316 exit ramp to Pleasant Hill Road. Three cars were involved in the accident, which claimed the lives of five young people. Three others were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Police have identified each of the deceased victims:
- Katy Gaitan, 17, of Atlanta
- Ashley Gaitan, 16, of Atlanta
- Coral Lorenzo, 17, of Atlanta
- Hung Nguyen, 18, of Lawrenceville
- Abner Santana, 19, of Suwanee
According to initial reports communicated by the Gwinnett Police Department, one of the cars flipped over the wall of the GA-316 ramp, and descended onto the I-85 exit lane. Estimates indicate that this drop would have been around 50 feet.
Details surrounding what caused the initial car to flip over the wall of the overpass are still scarce. Evidence linking the plummeting vehicle with the two others in the accident is also slowly coming in.
