Teenagers love to hang out at shopping malls. Walking around in different stores, hanging out in the food court, or taking in the day’s promotional giveaways are some of the many pastimes that middle and high schoolers love about mall complexes.

On July 14, a 16-year-old was heading to Green’s Corners Shopping Plaza just off of Canton Highway, potentially with one or more of the social objectives mentioned above in mind. Unfortunately, the teenager never made it to the plaza, as the left turn made to enter the complex was not executed sharply.

Instead, the 2004 GMC Canyon the 16-year-old was driving struck a motorcycle that was stopped at a red light at the intersection. Andrew Perillo, age 31, was on his 2021 Harley Davidson Softail when the collision took place. Perillo was confirmed dead at the scene of the accident by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department. It is unknown whether Perillo was wearing a helmet that fateful evening.

The teenager driving the automobile was not injured in the crash.

It is generally well known that teenagers are more likely to be involved in accidents, which insurance premiums usually reflect. To add to that reality, AAA has also stated that the 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day are statistically the most dangerous for teenage drivers. The incident on Canton Highway falls right in the middle of this range.

New driver Madaline McCoy recently finished up her education at Georgia Driving School and is well aware of the perilous 100-day period.

“Makes me a little bit nervous just because it means I need to be a lot more cautious and not get cocky,” she said. Via 13WMAZ.com
