Driving in the middle of the night is risky for several reasons, including other drivers’ fatigue and reduced visibility. More dangerous is when a driver tries to make a sharp turn in the middle of the night while it’s raining.

This describes the scene Jose Luis Estala experienced in the early morning hours on November 30. He was driving a Dodge Caravan around 2:30 a.m. on Tanners Mill Road when he approached a right-hand curve.

Allegedly, Estala was going too fast for the upcoming turn and had too much velocity considering the condition of the wet roadway. The Dodge Caravan careened past the shoulder of the road, and it hit an embankment straight-on.

While the condition of the 67-year-old Estala has not been reported, his passenger, 69-year-old Silvia Franco Mireles, did not survive the incident.

Mireles was thrown from the vehicle upon impact with the embankment in a harrowing sequence of events. She was sitting in the backseat of the Dodge Caravan during the ride. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are sure to be released in the near future.

During this difficult time, the professionals at Rafi Law Firm extend their condolences to Mireles’ friends and family. In the event that you or someone you know is injured in a car accident, please call us at (404) 800-9933.
